Button layout frustrations on Evercade

I love Goodboy Galaxy on the Evercade. What I don’t like is the button layout though. Just as with a lot of other games. At some point in the game you have to play a rhythm game by pressing the A and B buttons at the correct time. Only on the Evercade, A is B and B is A. It’s so frustrating!

I remember Blaze put up a poll about which layout they should use, ABXY or BAXY. two thirds of the votes went to ABXY, but I keep wondering if the voters knew we would eventually mainly play Nintendo games on it (and Sega, but they had a C button, so that’s already confusing). Are there even any old games out there that used ABXY? Isn’t that a thing that was introduced when the Xbox was released or something?

Anyway, I can’t get used to it. Maybe that was the reason I went for the PlayStation 4 in 2014 instead of the Xbox One/X/Series/Series-X/S? (I don’t know their confusing naming convention after the 360). It took me a while before I got used to the triangle, square, circle, cross thing, but at least my A’s and B’s didn’t get confused.

Mind you, the fact that Nintendo uses the bottom button to go back and other systems the right button (or the other way around. I can’t remember from the top of my head), is another issue than reversing the A and the B. If Blaze put out a controller with BAXY I would buy it! Anyway, so much for my GameroomRanting!
