Ever since it’s release, the Retro inspired Nox Archaist has intrigued me. The story behind its development was very fun to listen to on podcasts back when it was released. And ever since then the collector’s edition has tempted me. Every once in a while, I visit the website and last week the ever so slowly decreasing number of units still available made me pull the trigger.
Up until now, the fact that it’s an Apple II game made me hold of. I try to limit myself to buying Commodore 64, Amiga en PC games, but I could not convince myself any longer. I already have quite a lot of Atari ST games after all. And I bought a VIC-20 game, and even have another Apple II games.
The game arrived today and I’m very glad I got it. The manual is thick and has pencil drawings of the monsters in the game. Just like in the Ultima Underworld manual I used to pore over. It has a paper map, also just like the old Ultima games. It even has some feelies like a coin, postcard and a gem.
I think I will play the game on the Turbo Chameleon, or otherwise the MiSTer.
