This is the first time I’m playing Tomb Raider. It’s fun. I can imagine enjoying myself with it, had I played it in 1996. But I was busy with Mario 64 then.
The level design is fiendish. You have to pay real close attention to the blocky environment. And most of it is the same color. It probably doesn’t help that I’m playing it on the small screen of the Evercade. It makes it easy to miss that some surfaces have tiny handles. And some of those handles make it possible to push enormous blocks. Lara really is encredibly strong! Just when I though about how ridiculous that is, I remembered making Link do the same thing in one of my favorite games, Ocarina of Time.
I was quite stuck in level 2 and later in level 3, which made me play some of that other Evercade cart I brought along: Legacy of Kain. Another big game from 1996 that I’ve never played. I must have been really busy with my Nintendo 64 back then. And also I was in my late teens/early twenties and had other things on my mind than gaming.
Legacy of Kain is cool, albeit a bit to horrific for my taste. All those screaming people chained to the wall. Yuck!
