This weekend, I spend quite a lot of time with Tears of the Kingdom. I solved the situation with the birds and now I just dived into the mountain. I do miss the old Zelda dungeons a bit, but can see how that gameplay mechanic wouldn’t fit in an open world game. Admittedly, exploring the thing in the sky was fun. A lot easier than in Breath of the Wild, but I’m glad I didn’t have to do any tilting stuff.
No longer having to climb towers to get a map of the surroundings is nice. Although it was fun in the first game, it was a wise decision not to have to do that again this time. Too bad that the shrines have remained though. Just as in Breath of the Wild I find the shrines wildly out of place. Some of them are fun to do, but they distract me from immersing myself into the game world.
Building stuff is a bit finnicky, but I admire how intuitive they managed to get it. Although you can argue about the addition of building stuff in Zelda games, I see the added benefit of adding this extra component. It enhances the gameplay element of exploring the world. I’m not convinced yet though that it would have been less fun if they’d just placed already finished carts, balloons and gliders in the game. But maybe there are still more complicated things to come.
Helping the guy put up signs everywhere is absolutely ridiculous, but I can’t help myself and have to help him out. I just pile up a lot of stuff and every time I do, I wonder how other people do it.
