My first Zelda game was Ocarina of Time and that’s the Zelda I have the fondest memories of. It’s one of the best games I’ve played. A few years ago, I tried to go further back and play A Link to the Past, but while I got pretty far, I never finished it. I can see why people find it the best Zelda game, but not for me.
I don’t know if I’ll ever try to complete A link to the Past. In my mind I already sort of did, because I played, and enjoyed, A Link Between Worlds.
While I booted up the first two Zelda games a few times, I’ve never actually played them for more than a few minutes and I don’t think I ever will. Especially now that I’m playing Lykia – The Lost Island on the Commodore 64.
Lykia is very cool. I imagine this is a bit like how it must have felt playing the first Zelda back in the day. Although I realize this is probably way easier than that must have been. I got a feeling of accomplishment when I unlocked a cutscene last night. I could have missed it completely if I hadn’t decided to sleep in a random bed. I don’t like the fighting mechanic in Lykia, but I never do like this sort of fighting in overhead games. I’m grateful though that the combat isn’t turn-based. That would have slowed the game down too much. I’m only a few hours in and I’m curious to see how it turns out.

On another note, I finished two games last week: Full Void and The Ghosts of Blackwood Manor.
I liked Full Void. A very nice game that didn’t outstay it’s welcome. I played it on Evercade and I think it is a bit overpriced. I would have found it more reasonable if it was a dual-cart. I think the Goodboy Galaxy and Witch n’ Wiz cart offers way more value-for-money.

Besides Full Void, I also finished The Ghosts of Blackwood Manor. I reached the neutral ending and became an Ectoplasma Connoisseur. I also liked this game very much. There were a few instances that annoyed me because I needed to “search” an item instead of merely “examining” it. But that didn’t detract too much from my enjoyment of the game. Maybe one day, I’ll try to reach the other endings.
