More Lykia

I made some more progress in Lykia. I let Tildom meet with Esmeralda and fetched a packet for Ludmilla, after which they both got themselves arrested. I set them free and now have to search for more women to set free. The problem is that I don’t know where they are. The only other place I have access to is a town north of Verlingenhoven. But all the doors there are locked. And then there’s a tower that can only be opened by dragons. The only thing I can think of right now is grinding to get enough coins to buy a fire spell to try and unfreeze a living statue, but I’ve no idea what good that will do me. And seeing the amount of coins that the spell costs indicates that you’re supposed to buy it later on.

That’s right, just like in many other games, creatures like owls and cats drop coins and health potions when they’re defeated. But maybe they are not regular owls and cats, because when they are defeated they start to shimmer and disappear. So maybe it’s not that weird that they drop coins…

I also met a funny rabbit who claims he’s a Master Wizard. The game sure has humor.

A thing that slightly annoys me is the saving system. You can only save when meeting up with a character named Gomez. While he does turn up at convenient places, he is sometimes a little bit out of the way. What makes it more annoying is that I’m playing the Easyflash version on the Turbo Chameleon 64. That means that I have to drop out of the game to save a copy of the rom file to really save the game. I therefore tried playing the game from the actual floppies and was surprised at the speed the game is playable at. There’s a little bit of loading between some screens, but it’s really fast. And I don’t even know if the 1541-II I’m using has JiffyDOS installed. My 1541-I does, but it won’t turn on anymore. I really have to look into that, or have that one fixed. Anyway, saving on floppies also works really well. I might even start over this way.
