Starting out with my next big game

After a few weeks away and playing only shorter games, I want to start on a larger gaming adventure. The last weeks I have played a lot on my Evercade and Mario Kart World on my Switch 2. My last big game was Baldur’s Gate III, that I finished over 2 months ago. I thought about which game I wanted to play next. After the top-down western rpg that is BG III, I wanted more of a first person game and/or jrpg. Or maybe a point-and-click adventure game. I thought about Red Dead Redemption II which is high on my want-to-play list, or Oblivion Remastered, or Final Fantasy VII.

But I find Oblivion too expensive still, and maybe (hopefully) we will still see a physical release yet. And while I bought FF VII for cheap on the PlayStation store, although I also have the original PC release, I think I would rather first play some of the earlier FF games (I’ve only played FF VI so far and I still want the physical pixel remasters for playing the earlier versions.) Then there are some point-and-click adventure games I want to play, like The Excavation of Hobb’s Barrow, or Simon the Sorcerer II (before the new Simon the Sorcerer Origins comes out.) But I’m still re-playing Escape from Monkey Island and want to finish that first. So then when I had almost decided on RDR II, my eye caught on Pillars of Eternity and before I knew it, I had popped that in my PlayStation and I was 4 hours into that.

Pillars of Eternity has a great atmosphere. I had already played 1-2 hours 1-2 years ago, and knew then that at some point in the future I wanted to sit down to get properly into the game. It turns out that point is now. I like how easy it is to control the game. Somehow the interface on the PlayStation is much more intuitive to me than Baldur’s Gate’s III was. I also like the writing and the music. I love to read the not-spoken dialog aloud. The music reminds me a lot of the music from The Witcher III, which is a good thing. At the time I’m writing this, I’ve just finished act 1. I’ve chosen to go with a druid which is not a class I usually play. At the moment it turns out fine. I’m playing on normal difficulty and up until now that’s perfect for me. I’m curious to find out how those choices will turn out later on in the game.

I just made a small mistake by unintentionally ratting out a seemingly nice researcher to the head librarian who is not a nice person. Oops! I’ve got to be more careful about what I say to people…
