Runaway: theme song of one of the best TV shows ever

Now that I have a record player in the house again after 35 years or so, albeit a crappy one, I needed a record to play on it.

The only record I have is the soundtrack of Rocket Ranger. And I wanted something more appropriate to satisfy my nostalgia with this crappy old HiFi system that I had when I was a teenager. I remember that I played two records that I borrowed from my dad back in the day. The first one was Apache from The Shadows, of which my dad is a big fan. The other one was Runaway from Del Shannon. I remember listening to those songs again and again.

Not long after that I became hooked on one of the greatest TV series ever: Crime Story. I loved everything about that series, not in the least the title theme: a sped up version of Del Shannon’s Runaway. A lot of actors appeared on that show in their younger years. And it directly influenced the movie Heat and other shows that I watched in later years.

I loved the show so much that I ordered the complete series on DVD from the US in the early 2000s before streaming was a thing. The shipping service they used was DHL, which didn’t yet serve private people yet back then in our little country, only businesses, and I had to pick it up in some obscure location somewhere. I also had to region unlock my dvd player in order to watch it. Those were the days…

I’m happy to say I still like listening to Dell Shannon’s Runaway, although I think I like the speedier Crime Story version better.
